Dog Training
Dogs can be our companions, our best friends and our protectors. They don't care how we look, they forgive us almost anything, and they like us even better if we smell bad. However, in order to get the most from our relationship with our canine pals we need to learn to communicate effectively with them. My Meg was a rescue dog; someone had "dumped" her in the country where she was found cold and hungry. She is a very special girl, but the first three months with her were trying. She is extremely smart and it took a long time to learn how to communicate with her. Since that time I have met Lisa-Ann Brown (Rooke). I wish I had known her then!
Lisa has been working and training dogs since 1989. She is a graduate of Animal Behavior and Training Associated in California. She has completed and attended several animal behavioral courses. She has raised champion Bullmastiffs, and shown Dobermans, Scottish Terriers, Weimaraners and Akitas. Lisa specializes in animal behavior and positive/clicker training. Currently, Lisa is working with the SPCA in a training program with the dogs that are up for adoption. Lisa also runs training classes for all levels at the Just About Pets Wellness Centre in Abbotsford, BC and she does one-on-one consultation and training as well.
Lisa has put together a series of training booklets dealing with a variety of doggie challenges. Following are a list and description of each booklet. There will be more to follow. Price per booklet is $5.95. Order all five booklets and save $3.80, just $25.95.

Crate Training Add to Cart
Some people are still having a hard time understanding why we should or would crate train our puppy. The answer is to have a secure, safe place for them to be for be time, quiet time or naptime, and also for when we go out. Have you ever heard of anyone saying, "My puppy ate the couch last night"? This could have been avoided if the puppy was confined in their crate.
A crate is used for many different reasons. Some people love to travel with their puppy in an automobile or on planes. The crate gives the puppy a safe place to sleep and the puppy feels comfortable. Crates are also used to aid in house training for young puppies and also for older dogs that are incontinent. Many hotels are willing to accept a family with a dog as long as the dog is crate trained.
Puppies or dogs that are used to being in a crate will be less stressed if they are crated at the groomers or veterinarians.
If you are planning on crate training your puppy, remember one thing:
never use it for punishment!!!
In this booklet Lisa discusses: Types of crate; Location of crate; If your puppy eliminates in the crate; Time guidelines; Kids and the crate; Introducing the crate and using it to house train your puppy or dog; And lots more…

Socialization means teaching a puppy how to behave appropriately in human society and with their canine peers.
You need to socialize your puppy so that the puppy will learn how to interact with the species with which it lives. Your puppy has to learn how to develop communication skills, which will help them recognize whether or not they are being threatened and how to recognize and respond to the intentions of others, whether human or canine.
In this booklet you will learn about socializing with children, adults, seniors, other dogs, at home and on walks. You will also learn how to handle your puppy, suggestions and guidelines for puppy classes, doggie daycares, puppy parties and much more.
