The fruit is small and round which ripens from green to yellow. It is similar to a small orange. Note: Top. Odour of Essential Oil of Bergamot: Sweet and citrus, with a hint of floral. Actions of Essential Oil of Bergamot: Anti-depressant, balances skin, detoxifies, insect repellent. Circulatory: Fluid retention, varicose veins. Digestion: Anorexia, appetite - lack, colic, digestion - sluggish, digestive atonia, flatulence, gallstones, halitosis, indigestion, intestinal parasites, tooth abcess, ulcers. Genito-Urinary: Cystitis, leucorrhea, urethritis. Immune: Cold sores, fever, flu, herpes, mouth ulcers, tonsillitis, viral infection. Lymphatic: Abscess, lymph congestion, water retention. Comments on Bergamot: Native to tropical Aisa, the Ivory Coast and Northern Italy.~This oil was virtually unheard of outside of Italy until it was exported as a fruit in the 1960's. Bergamot is an excellent oil for genito-urinary tract problems, and is also widely used as an anti-depressant.~Bergamot is used in Earl Grey tea to give it that citrus-like flavour.~Sun or tanning bed exposure should be avoided for at least 16 hours after using Bergamot topically, even if it is washed off with soap and water some residues will remain that could cause skin to burn.
