Essential Oil of Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) Abbr: Euc [to top of page] Tall evergreen, growing up to 90 metres in height. The young trees have bluish-green leaves, while mature trees develop long, narrow, yellowish leaves, creamy-white flowers and a smooth, pale grey bark often covered in a white powder. It has large bright green leaves with red flowers. Note: Top. Odour of Essential Oil of Eucalyptus: Penetrating, refreshing and camphorous. Properties of Essential Oil of Eucalyptus: Analgesic, Antibacterial, Anticatarrh, Antifungal, Anti-infectious, Anti-inflammatory, Antiseptic, Antiviral, Decongestant, Deodorant, Diuretic, Expectorant, Hypoglycemic, Insecticide, Mucolytic, Respiratory, Rubefacient, Stimulant, Vermifuge, Vulnerary. Actions of Essential Oil of Eucalyptus: Insect repellent. Circulatory: Circulation - sluggish, fluid retention, low blood pressure, parasites. Immune: Colds, fever, flu, herpes, infectious disease, measles, viral infection. Lymphatic: Inflammation, lymph congestion, water retention. Muscular: Sprains. Respiratory: Asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, congestion, cough, emphysema, headache - sinus, respiratory problems, sinus congestion, sinus infection, throat infection. Skeletal: Rheumatism. Comments on Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus is thought of as one of the most cleansing essential oils.~Grown primarily in Australia, Spain, China, and Portugal, Eucalyptus has been diffused in sick rooms to support the respiratory system and kill viruses, fungi and infectious diseases.~Cool, slightly bitter, and pungent, this essential oil has a camphor-like quality that may assist your body’s efforts to maintain general respiratory health.~Eucalyptus blends well with Lavender, Lemon or Pine Needle, and its aromatic influences may help promote feelings of health and well being, as well as protect against airborne disease when diffused in the office or at home.~Supports the respiratory, circulatory, epidermal, lymphatic, immune and urinary systems.~Eucalyptus Globulus is the most powerful Eucalyptus and should be used with caution for children and the elderly or infirm.~Other varieties of Eucalyptus include: Eucalyptus Radiata - A powerful expectorant and safer for children; Eucalyptus Smithii - Still excellent decongestant and anti-viral properties, but may be less taxing for use with elderly or infirm people; Eucalyptus Citradora - A slight lemon scent gives this Eucalyptus a particular distinction, but it is not recommended for respiratory congestion, although it is still an excellent anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-infectious oil.
