Essential Oil of Ginger (Zingiber offlcinale) Abbr: Gin [to top of page] An erect perennial herb that grows up to 1 metre high with a thick, spreading, tuberous rhizome root, which is very pungent. Each year it sends up a green reed like stalk with narrow spear-shaped leaves and white or yellow flowers on a spike direct from the root. Note: Base. Odour of Essential Oil of Ginger: Fresh and spicy sweet and minty. Colour of Essential Oil of Ginger: Pale yellow, amber or greenish. Source of Essential Oil of Ginger: Dried ground root. Method of Extraction of Ginger: Steam distillation. Properties of Essential Oil of Ginger: Analgesic, Antibacterial, Anticatarrh, Antioxidant, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Carminative, Digestive, Expectorant. Actions of Essential Oil of Ginger: Stimulates lymph, warming. Circulatory: Circulation - sluggish, circulation problems, rheumatism. Digestion: Colic, constipation, diarrhea, digestion - sluggish, flatulence, indigestion, nausea, travel sickness. Immune: Flu. Lymphatic: Stimulant. Muscular: Aches and pains, cramps, muscle fatigue, sprains, strains. Nervous: Exhaustion. Respiratory: Catarrh, congestion, cough, sinus congestion, sore throat.
