Method of Extraction of Lemongrass: Distillation. Properties of Essential Oil of Lemongrass: Analgesic, Antibacterial, Antidepressant, Antioxidant, Antiseptic, Astringent, Carminative, Deodorant, Febrifuge, Fungicide, Insecticide, Nervine, Sedative. Actions of Essential Oil of Lemongrass: Anti-depressant, skin toning, tonic - general. Circulatory: Circulation problems. Digestion: Colitis, gastroenteritis, indigestion. Genito-Urinary: Menstrual pain. Immune: Fever, infectious disease. Muscular: Aches and pains, muscle pain, muscle tone. Nervous: Depression, exhaustion, headache, nervous exhaustion, nervous indigestion, stress related problems. Skeletal: Joint pain. Skin: Acne, athletes foot, dermatitis, eczema, fungal infection, lice, open pores, perspiration - excessive, scabies, skin disorders, skin infection, skin tone, ticks, tissue - slack. Medical Terms: Colitis, gastroenteritis. Mental/Emotional Symptoms: Depression, exhaustion, headache, tension. Contra-Indications for Lemongrass: May irritate sensitive skin. Children under 2 years of age. Prostate hyperplasia (due to chemical citral). Comments on Lemongrass: Lemongrass is thought to originate in India, and may also be known as Indian Verbena, or Indian Melissa oil.~This oil is also cultivated in hot, humid areas such as West Indies, Guatemala, Brazil, Sri Lanka and parts of Central Africa.~Lemongrass has been shown in scientific trials that it is a powerful antiseptic and anti-bacterial agent; it is also known to be a strong deodorant.~It is most likely for thse reasons that Lemongrass is sometimes used in ritual cleansings.~A similar oil, Cymbopogon flexuosus, is grown in the Eastern regions of India and is considered to be lighter.~Due to its appearance and scent Lemongrass is often used to adulterate more costly oils such as Verbena and Melissa.
