It has knotted branches, trifoliate aromatic leaves and small, white flowers. The trunk exudes a liquid (oleoresin) which hardens into a reddish-brown resin. Note: Base. Odour of Essential Oil of Myrrh: Resin has a warm, rich, spicy-balsamic scent. Essential oil has a warm, sweet-balsamic, slightly spicy-medicinal scent. Comments on Myrrh: Myrrh is native to northeast Africa and southwest Asia, including the Red Sea area.~The use of Myrrh was recorded as far back as 1700 BC.~This oil has been used by the Egyptians in the mummification process as well as for perfumes; it was used during biblical times as a uterine tonic particularly after birthing; the Greeks used it to heal wounds on their gladiators; and in China it was used for arthritis, menstrual problems, sores and hemmorrhoids.~Myrrh is an excellent choice for athlete's foot and other fungicidal infections, and is used in mouth rinse and natural toothpaste formulas to help prevent gum disease and for healing mouth ulcers and other gum disorders.
