Essential Oil of Petitgrain (Citrus aurantium var. amara fol. or Citrus vulgari) Abbr: Pet [to top of page] This is an evergreen tree that grows up to 10 metres tall with dark green, glossy, oval leaves with long but dull spines. It has a smooth greyish trunk and branches and very fragrant white flowers. Its fruit is smaller and darker than sweet orange. Note: Top. Odour of Essential Oil of Petitgrain: Fresh-floral citrus scent. Distinct woody-herbaceous undertone. Colour of Essential Oil of Petitgrain: Pale yellow to amber. Source of Essential Oil of Petitgrain: Leaves, twigs and flowers. Method of Extraction of Petitgrain: Steam distillation. Properties of Essential Oil of Petitgrain: Antibacterial, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Deodorant, Digestive, Nervine, Stimulant. Actions of Essential Oil of Petitgrain: Aids convalescence, calming, immuno-stimulant. Circulatory: Palpitations. Digestion: Flatulence, intestinal cramps, stomach cramps. Genito-Urinary: Menstrual pain. Immune: Colds, flu, immuno-stimulant. Muscular: Aches and pains, cramps, muscle spasms. Nervous: Anxiety, exhaustion, insomnia, nervous insomnia, stress related problems. Skin: Acne, hair - oily, perspiration - excessive. Medical Terms: Palpitations.
