Comments on Sandalwood: Native to India and Asia, Sandalwood has played an important role in furniture making, incense and perfumery for centuries.~The tree is now nearing extinction due to over harvesting for the furniture industry.~Aromatherapy distillation uses the sawdust created by the furniture industry, and so does not directly support these practices, but instead provides recycling to see that there is no waste.~However, we should be aware of the value of the oil we use.~Sandalwood is an important oil for depression and anxiety problems.~In addition, it is a powerful urinary antiseptic.~Sandalwood has been used for centuries for the treatment of various infections of the urinary tract, and as a good pulmonary antiseptic.~Its sedative nature makes it a useful oil for dry, persistent coughs and is one of the best oils for chronic bronchitis.~Finally, Sandalwood is very beneficial to many different skin problems, especially when used in a warm compress.
