Essential Oil of Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) Abbr: Y/Y [to top of page] A tall tropical tree that grows up to 20 metres tall. It has large tender fragrant flowers which can be pink, mauve or yellow. (Cananga odorata is a close cousin to the curry plant). Note: Base. Odour of Essential Oil of Ylang Ylang: Intense, floral/balsamic, slightly spicy. Colour of Essential Oil of Ylang Ylang: Pale yellow to clear. Source of Essential Oil of Ylang Ylang: Fresh flowers. Method of Extraction of Ylang Ylang: Distillation (Absolutes by solvent extraction). Properties of Essential Oil of Ylang Ylang: Antibacterial, Antidepressant, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Aphrodisiac, Hypotensive, Nervine, Sedative, Stimulant. Actions of Essential Oil of Ylang Ylang: Anti-depressant, aphrodisiac, calming. Circulatory: High blood pressure. Digestion: Colic, stomach cramps. Endocrine: Pre-menstrual syndrome. Genito-Urinary: Menstrual pain, pre-menstrual syndrome. Muscular: Aches and pains, cramps, muscle spasms. Nervous: Anxiety, depression, insomnia, nervous insomnia, nervous shock, stress related problems. Reproduction: Aphrodisiac, frigidity, impotence, libido - depressed. Skin: Acne, hair loss, skin - oily, wrinkles. Mental/Emotional Symptoms: Anger, anxiety, aphrodisiac, balances, calming, insomnia, promotes sleep, relaxing, shock, tension. Contra-Indications for Ylang Ylang: Avoid with low blood pressure. May cause headaches, nausea and dizziness if overused. Comments on Ylang Ylang: Native to Madagascar, tropical Asia (especially Indonesia and the Philipines) the finest organic Ylang Ylang is currently produced in Madagascar.~It is said that this plant does not transplant well, to grow in different environments.~Ylang Ylang is thought of as the "flower of flowers".~Ylang Ylang Extra is the first 35 percent of the first distillation - the finest quality of Ylang Ylang is Extra.~It is considered the Rolls Royce of Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang has historically been known to assist circulatory, muscle, joint and skin health (especially aging skin problems)as well as support against hair loss associated with old age.~Ylang Ylang has also been known to support the nervous system.~This oil is an effective, supportive relaxer that assists the circulatory and emotional systems.~The calming and relaxing properties, together with its exotic fragrance, make it an excellent aphrodisiac.~Ylang Ylang is also said to regulat the flow of adrenaline and ease anger, shock and fear.
